Welcome to Film Under Fire!
We’re over 100 years deep in cinematic history and long-standing ideas, so who better to burn it all down than a bunch of cinephiles with a drink in their hand. Each week we engage with a polarizing film to make the final call on its worth while taking the chance to explore cinema and our relationship to the movies.
No big deal right?
This week’s entry is Meryl Streep at arguably her best in Ricki and the Flash. Directed by Jonathan Demme and written by Diablo Cody, it opened to mild reviews which didn’t sit well with Matt, so it’s the first film up for discussion.
Also, we want to talk about Maureen and screentime – can withholding a character strengthen their impact in a film?
